Forgiveness is necessary to free yourself from bondage tied to the harmful actions of others. But sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself because of guilt and shame. These two entities are vital to a repentant heart. However, holding on to guilt and shame is self-destructive and will hold you back from achieving all that God has for you, because you essentially live in bondage to yourself. But, there’s great news- God has given you the power to overcome guilt and shame, because whom the Son sets free is free indeed. So, take whatever it is to God- if it’s sin, first confess it to God and ask His forgiveness. Next, exercise your power to forgive yourself, renew your mind, show yourself gentle love, and appreciate the lessons learned, living truly free from the stain of whatever it is that had you bound to guilt and shame. Give God all the glory and move forward in the power of His might to do His will.
Prayer:
Dear Father God,
Thank You Lord for Your divine power to overcome guilt and shame. I realize that guilt and shame hold me back from achieving Your will and being all that You have created me to be. I ask that You help me to be ever mindful of Your power that You have placed within me to overcome any guilt and shame that tries to take up residence in me so that I can live in complete freedom to do Your will. Lord, I give You all the glory, honor, and praise.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
John 8:36
Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7
