2 Corinthians 12:9
And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:10
Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Joel 3:10
Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
What do you think of when you hear the word strength, or strong? Most people envision someone physically strong who can lift an ample amount of weight. They may think of someone who is unbreakable, who never or rarely shows fear, who never or rarely cries, or someone who never gets weak, for example, someone who never gets tired, burnt-out, feels pain, or gets spiritually low.
Any relation to being weak in our society is seen as a negative. Even many persons that are serving the Lord associate being weak as mainly having a lack of faith or that you must be doing something wrong in your walk with the Lord. People associate being weak with not having enough of something and/or not being enough. You may think these thoughts about your own self at times.
Well, the Lord said, “My grace is sufficient for you”, meaning God’s grace, His undeserved favor is enough for you. God in His omniscience knows every single weakness that you have. He knows and understands that while you are striving for perfection, you’re not perfect and that you do and will get weak. But God, in His omnipotent power will make up for whatever weaknesses you may have.
That is why Paul was able to say when I am weak therefore, I am strong. And that is why we can boldly say the same thing. When you are weak, that is when God’s strength shines in and around You. When you are weak that is when you realize just what God can do. When you are weak, that is when you learn to trust God even more, to depend on Him, to hear His voice more clearly, to follow Him, to grow in Him, to submit to Him, and to become strong in and through Him.
So, from now on when you think of being strong, go ahead and embrace if you’re weak. No matter your situation or circumstance, no matter who it is, what it is, why it is - no matter your weakness or weaknesses, take pleasure in knowing that the Lord’s grace is sufficient for you. Cry if you have to, express your fears to the Lord if you need to, acknowledge when you’re weak to the Lord when you need to, and then stand up and proclaim through the Lord, when I am weak, then am I strong.
Prayer:
Dear Father God,
Thank You Lord for being our strength when we are weak. Thank You Lord for being a perfect God with perfect understanding in knowing that we are imperfect beings. Thank You for extending Your grace to us when we are weak, for Lord Your perfect strength makes up for our weaknesses. Lord, please help us to recognize and embrace when we are weak and take pleasure in knowing that those things which cause us to be weak for Your sake, actually make us strong. Lord, help us to boldly say that through Your power, when I am weak, then am I strong.
In Jesus most holy and precious name we pray,
Thank You Lord,
Amen
