Jesus said to pray for your enemies- those who despitefully use you and persecute you. To despitefully use someone means to treat that person with reckless disregard and take advantage of him or her, despite the pain and trauma that he or she endures as a result of such treatment. To despitefully persecute someone means to torture a person, and/or to oppress him or her, despite the harm that is done. So how do you pray for someone like that? Well you must do so in the spirit, asking and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you. But, you always operate in God’s love. You can pray for God to bless them with His love, mercy, grace, and salvation, as God has so blessed you. When you pray for your enemies and bless them, not curse them; you will be blessed beyond what you can ever imagine, because God said blessed are they that keep My ways. And when God blesses you, you are blessed indeed.
Prayer:
Dear Father God,
Thank You Lord for the opportunity to pray for my enemies. I know that the flesh wars against the spirit and I ask You Holy Spirit to help me stay in Your spirit and guide me as I pray for them who have despitefully used and persecuted me. I humbly ask that You would bless them to know Your abundant love, mercy, grace, and salvation as you have so undeservingly blessed me.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Matthew 5:44
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Romans 8:26
Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
Proverbs 8:32
