Overcoming Distractions

May 30, 2021

Audio/Video

James 1:14

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:8

Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Are you where God wants you to be in life? Do you sometimes or often times struggle with reaching the goals that you feel God has placed within your heart? Do you feel that you could and should be doing more for the Lord? Feelings of falling short of your God-given goals, whether daily, short term, or long term is something that everyone struggles with at some point in their lives. For some, it even seems to be a constant battle.

Many times, the barriers that prevents you from being successful in your mission are distractions. These distractions can take on many forms, such as social media, people, other things, and your own desires. But, be encouraged, you can overcome these distractions in three main steps and achieve all that God has given you to do.

The first step is to submit yourself to God. This is a daily requirement. The first thing every day, as soon as you awake, present yourself to God. Present your body, mind, spirit, and soul, including your goals, desires, and shortcomings. By submitting yourself to God, you are already way ahead of the distractions that Satan will try to put in your way, which leads to the next step. Resist the devil.

To resist means to fight, oppose, to keep out. To achieve what God has given you to do, you are going to have to use some muscle action. You are going to have to fight the lure of the enemy. Ask God for strength to do His will and He will answer your prayer. You can’t allow distractions to creep in even a little bit, because if you do, before you know it you are fully immersed in those things that will draw you further away from your divine tasks and can even draw you further away from God.

Therefore, step 3 is to draw closer to God. When you draw closer to God, He will draw closer to you. And when God draws closer to you, there is a divine empowerment from Him that allows you to achieve and do more than you ever thought possible. When you draw closer to God, you gain supernatural strength to rise above your distractions, challenges, and situations. You increase in diligence and endurance to go the distance.

So even though you may have fallen off the wagon, pick yourself up. Submit yourself to God, resist the devil, and draw closer to God and experience God draw closer to you. By doing these three things, you are sure to overcome any and all distractions and achieve your God-given goals and even do more than you ever imagined.

Prayer:

Dear Father God,

Thank You Lord for the ability to overcome distractions. Lord I know that you tempt no man, but we are tempted when we are drawn away by our own lusts. Lord, I submit myself fully to You. I ask that You give me Your divine strength to resist any and all things that Satan tries to use to distract me from achieving what You have given me to do. Lord as I draw closer to You, it gives me such joy, peace, and comfort to know that You are drawing closer to me, and with this I know that there is absolutely nothing that I can’t do. I love You Lord.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen
