The Bible identifies 4 different types of love. Eros is romantic love, as expressed between spouses. Familial or Storge love is expressed between family members. Philia love is expressed between friends and/or brothers and sisters in Christ. And then there’s agape love, which is expressed through God’s love for mankind. Agape love is the most powerful and highest form of love because it is divine, pure, unconditional love that originated with and emanates from God. Agape love is God in action. It is agape love that Jesus is speaking of when He says to Love your enemies and do good to them. And because you are fighting spiritual forces, agape love can only be achieved through the Holy Spirit. When contact with your enemies is not possible, you can still demonstrate agape love by wishing them the greatest good, which is God’s love and salvation. By loving and doing good to your enemies, you are also demonstrating your love for and to God. And great will be your reward in Heaven.
Prayer:
Dear Father God,
Thank You Lord for Your divine love, agape love, which was demonstrated with Jesus being the human sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. I ask that You would bless me, through Your Holy Spirit, to demonstrate agape love for my enemies. My greatest desire is to please You Lord, and I humbly thank You for the opportunity to do that, even through loving my enemies and for rewarding me in doing so.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen
But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Luke 6:27
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Luke 6:35
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.
Proverbs 25:21-22
