Jesus Our Anchor
Hebrews 6:19
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
What does a sailor and a relay team have in common? They both need an anchor. In general, an anchor provides support, security, and stability.
For the sailor an anchor in the form of a heavy metal device is secured to solid ground in the seabed. The anchor will provide the stability needed to prevent the boat from drifting away with heavy winds or capsizing in rough waters during a treacherous storm.
For the relay team such as swimming or in track, the anchor or anchor leg is the fastest person on the team. The anchor is placed usually in the last position in the relay race because he or she can gain ground to pull the team ahead or help them to maintain the lead they’ve already secured. The anchor is crucial to the relay team’s success because he or she can provide the support that the team needs to win the race.
The truth is we’re all sailing through life and let’s be real, we’re all running in a race. But we have a permanent anchor for every situation and that anchor is Jesus Christ. He is our holding power in the boisterous winds and the raging storms. Jesus is the anchor of our souls in time of emotional strain. He is our hope when we’re going through those challenging times.
Jesus is your anchor in the race. Yes, you may have lost time and got behind for various reasons. You may not be where you intended to be in your life by now. But guess what, with Jesus as your anchor, He makes up the ground in your race. Jesus will pull you ahead with divine speed and take you straight across the finish line, for all to see His glory and His wonder. And if you’re already in the lead, Jesus will help you to not get behind. You will win the race with Jesus as your anchor.
Jesus as your anchor gives you the stability that you need to stand firm and weather any storm. He is your anchor in all things, be it in the roughest waters, facing the toughest storm, or the longest race. Jesus, The Lord Almighty is your steadfast anchor. You can 100% count on Him to not only get you through but to get you ahead. So, put your hope in Jesus, the only sure anchor of the soul and experience His divine peace, security, and success on a whole new level.
Prayer:
Dear Father God,
Thank You Lord for being our sure and steadfast anchor. Lord, You are the only anchor we have to give us the support we need in any situation of our lives. Lord, You keep us secure in the raging storms. You are our anchor in the arduous race that we must run. You pull us ahead Lord to cross the finish line with divine speed in Your divine time. When our soul is cast down by the storms that we face and we start to lose our steam in the race, Lord, help us to look to You, our hope beyond hope. Help us to call on You and to trust You. Help us to realize that we have nothing to fear because You, O Mighty God, are our anchor in all things.
In Jesus most precious and holy name we pray, we love and thank You Lord.
Amen
