1 Corinthians 2:5

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

2 Corinthians 5:7

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

James 2:26

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Mark 11:22

And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

There are many inspirational stories of people in the Bible whose lives provide encouragement and strength for our walk with the Lord. They pressed their way despite the challenges before them and changed the course of history. One such person is Jochebed, the mother of Moses.

Jochebed is only mentioned two times in the Bible. But her story demonstrates how your place in life is not about how many times your name is mentioned in society or how well you’re known. Life is not about how famous or successful you are by man’s standards, it’s about how successful you are by God’s standards, which is not determined by how MUCH you do, but WHAT you do. And WHAT you do may be only one major thing that is more significant than many insignificant things. Life is about what you do for the Lord. Some people would call this quality over quantity. While that’s true, it’s more than that, because life is not just about quality over quantity, it’s about walking in God’s divine purpose.

Moses’s life, as just a little newborn baby, was in danger, as Pharaoh wanted to kill all the newborn baby boys because he felt it would threaten his kingdom. Moses’s mother, Jochebed knowing this made a sacrificial decision birthed out of love. She put Moses in a basket in the river and had his sister, Miriam, to watch over him from a distance to see what would happen to him, no doubt hoping he would be found. As God would have it, Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses and raised him as her own. Jochebed was even called upon to nurse Moses, unbeknownst to Pharaoh’s daughter that Jochebed was actually his mother.

What we can learn from Jochebed, this woman, whose name was only mentioned twice in the Bible, is for one, to operate in faith and determination. Jochebed, not only had faith that Moses would survive in the river, but that he would be found. No matter the odds against her, Jochebed was determined and exercised her faith regardless of the circumstances. She didn’t have any details, but it’s OK because God had already made all the provisions for Moses. God already had a plan for Moses that went far beyond Jochebed’s. God had a plan that Moses would be the one to lead the children of Israel out of bondage after they had been in bondage for nearly 400 years. Moreover, Moses was used to write and deliver the Ten Commandments.

Regardless of what you’re facing, who you’re facing, or how you’re facing it or them, have faith and exercise your faith with determination. Have faith that God will make a way out of no way. Have faith that God has you covered and has made all the provisions for you and your journey. Have faith that God has already put people in your life to help you and that God is leading them to you right now to help you in your situation. Have faith and exercise your faith with determination regardless of the circumstances, knowing that God will provide.

Prayer:

Dear Father God,

Thank You Lord for ability to walk in faith and determination no matter what or who I’m facing. Lord, I know that life is not about how much I can do, but really all about what I do for You. I ask You Lord to increase my faith and determination as I exercise my faith by Your Holy Spirit to do Your will. I may not have all the details Lord, or any details at all of how You’re going to work things out. But I claim in victory right now that You have already worked it out. And I praise and thank You Lord that regardless of the circumstances, You will provide.

In Jesus name I pray, Thank You Lord

Amen
