Have you ever been caught in a rainstorm? Thunderstorm? Or have you ever been in a tornado, earthquake, or other severe weather conditions? If so, you know how important it is to have refuge during those possibly calamitous events. Perchance, you’ve been through your own storms, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and felt you needed a place of refuge. Maybe you can relate to having a dream where you were being chased and you thought if I could only find refuge, I’ll be safe. Certainly, for most people who are running from danger, the main thing on their minds is to find a place of refuge. And sadly, there are many people currently in this very situation.
A refuge can be a physical place of safety, such as a sanctuary, or a safehouse, providing shelter from any type of actual or potential danger, or difficulty. A refuge can be a spiritual place of safety, providing a safe place to retreat when facing some of life’s greatest battles, those in the heart, mind, body, spirit, and soul. Or a refuge can be a place to retreat, to preserve your mind, heart, body, spirit, and soul. I think we’ve all been there at some point in our lives where we needed refuge from something or even someone and/or needed a retreat. Perhaps you’ve needed refuge from your job, other people, everyone and needed to just get away. If you haven’t been there, trust me, you will get to that point at some point in your life.
Well, how wonderful it is to know that God is our refuge, a very present help in times of trouble and/or in times of need. God is our sanctuary. In fact, the safest place to be is in the loving arms of God. Whether it is physical safety, God will provide. Or whether it is spiritual safety that you’re in need of, God will provide. God will provide refuge in all storms and situations of life. There is no storm that is too big for Him. There is no situation that is too dangerous for Him. And the same goes for any person or anything.
There are many places of refuge made with human hands. But only in the divine and omnipotent arms of God can you find refuge for every situation, including when you’re in need of safety and shelter for your mind, heart, spirit, and soul. This is especially important because, as bad as you might want to and need to get away sometimes for your mental health, you can’t just always get up and get away, or go on a retreat. But don’t stress, God can take you on a retreat right where you are. No matter what you’re going through or might go through down the line, God will be your shelter. God will be your safe haven. God will be your oasis, and it won’t cost you a dime, just your trust in Him, because God is our refuge.
Prayer:
Dear Father God,
Thank You Lord, omnipotent God, for being my refuge. Lord You are my shelter in the storm. You are my safehouse in times of danger. You are my oasis in the midst of sheer and utter chaos. Lord You are my sanctuary, my getaway, my haven. Lord, You are my strength. Father God, I know that as Your child, as long as I’m in Your loving arms, I don’t have to worry about anything, because You will take care of everything. And Lord I love the fact that with You as my refuge, the doors are always open. Your arms are never full. And it’s never too early or too late to call on You for help. Lord, please help me to walk in Your Holy Spirit, in every place and in every situation with blessed assurance, free of stress and with complete peace of mind knowing that You are with me, because You Lord, are my refuge.
In Jesus name I pray, I love You Lord,
Amen
