Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 3:6

In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Since the beginning of time, a person’s age has been a topic of interest and nowadays every sector of society has concerns related to age and aging. Many people are personally concerned with the effects of aging on their bodies, minds, health, appearance, abilities, as well as their social lives. Companies take advantage of these concerns and market mass products that are purported to curb the effects of aging. Employers judge a potential or actual employee’s ability to perform certain job-related duties based on that person’s age. And people judge their own or another person’s ability to do certain things in life based on age.

There is a saying that age is just a number. However, this saying gives a very simplistic view of age and does not consider the various ways to define age. First, there is chronological age, which is the length of years that a person has been alive according to their birth date. A person’s chronological age is fixed from day to day. No matter how great you feel or don’t feel, you can’t have a chronological age of 40 today and 30 tomorrow, or vice versa.

Next, there is biological age which is measured by the condition of your body on a molecular and cellular level. A person can have a chronological age of 50 and a biological age of 40 based on certain biomarkers. Furthermore, biological age is based on many factors such as genetics, lifestyle, stressors, and diet to name a few. Biological age can fluctuate during a person’s life.

Then there is appearance age. This is what age a person looks to be, generally according to societies standards of what is considered ‘normal’ appearance for a certain age. A person may be described as looking 'younger’ or ‘older’ than their chronological age. This can change in a matter of seconds, minutes, or hours depending on how long it takes someone to put on makeup. Hair dye and cosmetic surgery also have an instant effect on appearance age. And then there are people who naturally have an appearance age more consistent with their biological age. A person can have a chronological age of 50, biological age of 35 and an appearance age of 35.

Last is psychological age. This is how a person feels and/or acts according to the age they feel themselves to be. For example, a person can have a chronological age of 50 years old, a biological age of 50, an appearance age of 40 - after they put on their makeup, and a psychological age of 20. They feel 20 and act like they’re 10 because they’re emotionally immature. Or they can feel 20 and act 60.

Well now that we’ve covered the different types of age, it stands to reason that saying age is just a number, is not true. Age is much more than just a number, containing many factors that society use against people based on those factors. But what matters most is how God uses age. God doesn’t judge someone based on their chronological, biological, appearance, or psychological age. Your ability for God to use you is not based on any of these factors because age does not limit God.

God can use you no matter your age just like He used Abraham at 100 and Sarah at 90 years old to have a baby, Isaac. Samuel was just a child when God called him to service. There are others, but Jesus, Himself is our perfect example as He was just 12 years old when He was ministering to others. So, you see God can use you at any age. Therefore, don’t worry about how others see you and judge you because of your age. And be careful how you see yourself because of your age. God can use you no matter what your age in the most powerful, divine ways. Just put all your faith in Him, claiming in victory that age does not limit God.

Prayer:

Dear Father God,

Thank You Lord for being Master of all things. Lord, man puts limits on people because of their age and we even put limits on ourselves because of our age. But Father God, You can use anyone regardless of their age and, also because of their age, just so You can get the glory and all men will know that You are God and in control of all things. Father God, help us to widen our perspectives about age and see it through Your eyes. Help us to see by Your Holy Spirit that young, old, or in-between, we are able and equipped to be used by You in miraculous, powerful ways. Help us to see Father God that age does not limit You.

In Jesus matchless name we pray, thank You Lord,

Amen
